It’s not official yet, so don’t spread it around…
But “1940’s Radio Hour“, which has been delayed a bit because of problems with the musical support was voted by the board last week to not only become the Christmas production, but our submission to state competitions. What that means:
- Our music support has been approved to full orchestra scale. That means I get to sing with a full brass section behind me. Paid professionals. This is miles beyond the rock band stuff I’ve done in the past.
- Our Christmas production is almost like a showcase – it’s always the best attended production of our season. Every year up until now practically every seat of every show has sold out.
- We’re doing 4 shows instead of the planned 3. An extra night performance during the week.
- This production will also get edited down to 30 mins and performed for our state competition piece, in front of most every theater troupe and community theater minded person in Mississippi.
- And top of it all, I get to be front and center of the whole shebang singing and doing comedy.
I can’t begin to explain how big a deal this is for me personally. One of the goals I set when I joined TRP last year was to play something beyond a supporting role and this is just like hitting the grand slam.
Time to get my singing chops in order. And my drinking.
